~ Secretariat - America's Horse ~

It's been 32 years since Secretariat wowed the nation by winning the 1973 Triple Crown in awesome and memorable style.  His track records in the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes may never be challenged.  To this day, Secretariat remains the point of reference to which all racehorses are measured.

Since Secretariat always raced in blinkers,  I wanted to show his regal head and distinctive blaze.  Once a striking head portrait was established, the next view I wanted to show was a profile of his famous stride.  To no-one's surprise, Secretariat also had the longest stride pattern ever recorded.  It reminded me of an Olympic swimmer's leap off the starting block.  Finally, I wanted to show a direct view of his powerful chest muscles ... "the engine" ... which propelled him to such breathtaking performances.

I chose a 3-image montage to symbolize America's Triple Crown.  And in commemoration of Secretariat's 1973 Triple Crown Championship, I have registered this as a Limited Edition of 1,973 prints.
